Nature of the service

WhereAmI is a free tool that displays location data calculated by the user's browser or device operating system. On request, it also provides: address lookup by reverse geocoding (OpenStreetMap Nominatim), altitude comparison (Open-Elevation), and a search for nearby points of interest (OpenStreetMap Overpass API).

Limitation of liability

The information displayed (coordinates, altitude, speed, heading, accuracy, address, postcode, town, region, country, compared altitude, points of interest) is provided for informational purposes only, with no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or currency.

Position accuracy depends on the device's sensors, network coverage, the browser used, and environmental conditions, and can range from a few metres to several hundred metres.
Address and points-of-interest data come from OpenStreetMap and its volunteer contributors; they may be incomplete, incorrect, or outdated in some areas.
Compared altitude comes from third-party digital terrain models (Open-Elevation/SRTM), whose resolution and accuracy vary by location; it may differ from actual altitude.
WhereAmI should not be used as the sole source for medical, safety, legal, or emergency decisions (for example, to contact emergency services, which have their own means of locating you).

Accordingly, the site owner disclaims all liability for inaccuracies, errors, service interruptions, or any direct or indirect damage resulting from the use or inability to use this information. Users remain solely responsible for verifying data before acting on it.

Intellectual property

Map, address, and points-of-interest data are © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the ODbL licence. Altitude data comes from Open-Elevation (SRTM). The app's code is provided by its owner; any reuse requires their agreement.

Personal data

No location data is collected, stored, or transmitted to a WhereAmI server. Details of what is sent, to whom, and when, are explained on the dedicated Privacy page.
